Youthful Hearts Aerobics

Studies have shown that exercise provides many health benefits and that older adults can gain a lot by staying physically active. Even moderate exercise and physical activity can improve the health of people who are frail or who have diseases that accompany aging.  These exercise classes are designed specifically for senior adults.  On Wednesdays, a chair is used for seated or standing support.  Pre-registration is not required, but a waiver form must be completed at the first class.  Try your first class for free!

 

Instructor Leslie Michael is a Certified Senior Fitness Instructor by the American Senior Fitness Association.

Early Summer Softball Leagues

Softball is the original co-ed social sport! Our games are 60 minutes long, and are

held either at 6:30, 7:30, or 8:30pm. Our “Co-ed League” games are held on Thursdays, and our “Men’s League” games are held on Mondays. League fees due in full on April 16. Games begin the week of April 30, and include 8 games and a single-elimination tournament. The fee is $300 per team.

Explore the beauty of Clarksville’s Lapping Park with Brian Vance, Volunteer Naturalist of the Falls of the Ohio State Park. Brian will share his knowledge and expertise as we hike the trails of Lapping Park together.  Wear your hiking shoes for this moderate hike, rain or shine. Zumba Fitness

"Ditch the workout, join the Party" is Zumba's motto.  Inspired by Latin dance and music, Zumba uses a variety of styles such as Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Calypso and Reggaeton. Music selections include both fast and slow rhythms to help tone and sculpt the body. The dance steps are easy to follow and it's fun and addictive!  No dance experience is necessary to enjoy Zumba!

Karate for Kids ATA Taekwondo

Taekwondo is the most popular martial art for kids. It develops confidence, respect and courtesy, and it's fun!

 

Tiny Tigers (age 4+) Kids learn how to respect others, follow instructions, build self-confidence and work together while learning kicks, blocks and strikes.

 

Karate Kids (age 7+) A structured environment helps instill self-confidence and focus. Students will see improved coordination, balance and flexibility by practicing an array of techniques.

Students are rewarded for good behavior at home and school/daycare.

 

As kids progress, they earn progress stripes on their belt. Students can also test for higher ranks (additional fees apply). Beginners should wear t-shirts and workout pants. ATA uniforms are encouraged (purchase from instructor, $30 each). Phil Back, ATA 5th Degree Black Belt, has practiced taekwondo for 28 years. Mr. Back has been teaching children taekwondo for most of his martial arts career and strives to bring out the best in every child. For questions, please contact Mr. Back at 1backspin@gmail.com. Hatha Yoga (Level 1)

In these Hatha Yoga classes, you will be guided by certified yoga instructor Cindy Whalen, through a series of poses designed to strengthen your body and develop increased flexibility. Each class ends in deep relaxation. Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner. This class is suitable for all levels of students, with modifications to fit your individual needs. Power Flow Yoga (Level 2)

Power Flow Yoga is a Vinyasa style yoga practice with a focus on building strength and stamina, increasing your core strength, and working up a sweat! This is a level 2 class. It is recommended that you have experience with the yoga postures before taking this level 2 class, as modifications to postures will not be offered, and alignment specifics are not addressed. Starfish Swim School

Starfish Swim School (Ages 3-5): Designed to meet the needs of children ages 3 to 5, this course will develop a high comfort level in the water and a readiness to swim, and for those children who are developmentally ready, it will teach functional swim skills. This class approaches teaching swimming through creative, fun activities in the water. Students work toward developing the five competencies and progress toward achieving the benchmarks at their own pace in a small-group setting.

 

Starfish Swim School (Ages 6-10): Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies using age-appropriate learning activities. Learning is self-paced but challenging.

StarBabies and StarTots

The purpose of these programs is to develop in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training the adults who accompany them in water safety and drowning prevention. These programs do not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or to survive in the water; it does provide a confidence-building, fun, and loving experience. One adult must be in the water with each child. Swim diapers required.

Water Aerobics

Aqua Zumba

Summer Running Series

Join us each Wednesday evening between May 30 and July 25 for a bit of spirited running competition. The running series is open to all ages and abilities. All events are held rain or shine at the Clarksville High School track off of Ettels Lane. The fee is $1 per runner/per evening and $1 per spectator/per evening. Fees will be collected at the gate. (We will not meet on 7/04)
