Golden Years Games

A $5 gift card to a local business will be awarded to the winners. On Miscellaneous Games day (no prize), bring your own game or play one provided by us. Co-sponsored by Riverview Village.  Pre-registration not required for these FREE games that take place every Thursday.

Pool School at Clarksville Cove

Pool maintenance can be a hassle, especially for those that are new to having one in their backyard. Why not get some tips from the pros? These classes will focus on topics such as opening your pool, keeping your water clear, how to treat and prevent green water, testing your water, closing your pool, and so much more! Come hang out with the Pool Man poolside at Clarksville Cove for tips to keep your pool running smoothly all summer long!

Extending the Gardening Season

All About Composting

The extent to which we are able to maximize the benefits from a compost depends on its quality. The quality of the compost you produce and the rate at which you can produce it depends on how well you understand and properly apply the required composting steps. In this class, participants will learn the different types of composts, the conditions required for quality compost production and how to create a compost pile at home.

Card Making

In this class you will learn a variety of techniques to create beautiful cards that reflect just how much you care.  Let Wanda show you how fun and easy card making can be. This is a great place to share your creative ideas with others who share your passion for card making!

 

CLASS 1: Greeting Cards

You will make eight greeting cards total, four each of two designs. You will have a beautiful card to share with family or friends, just choose your sentiment!

 

CLASS 2: Autumn Greeting Cards

The lovely colors of Autumn will shine through in these beautiful cards. You will make eight greeting cards total, four of each design. You may find yourself feeling the warmth of summer and the crisp mornings of Autumn covering each of these cards.

 

CLASS 3: Holiday Cards

Yes, it does seem early to get your holiday cards started, but you will want these jolly cards in the mail in almost thirty days. Tonight you will make eight cards, four of each two designs. A tough of bling will have you in the mood for the nearing season.

The Grace Notes: Community Choir

Targeted towards older adults ages 50+, the Grace Notes will sing songs and socialize.  Genres of songs include hymns, gospel, country, oldies, Motown, show tunes, rock and pop, folk, and any other interests.  Adults of all abilities are welcome!  Come sing with us and have some fun.  Participants may also be invited to perform in community concerts, but these events are not required.

Herbal Soap Making

This is not your grandmother’s homemade soap. Instead, you will learn how to use a melt and pour soap to create Marigold and Honey soap along with a wonderfully smelling Cocoa and Mint soap. At the end of the class, you will have made one pound of each type of soap. Recipes for soaps included. Supplies you need include: one 12 cup muffin tin, cutting board and knife, fresh mint from produce department or garden, and one wax coated, cardboard container (example whipping cream or milk carton quart size).

Incredible Wearables

Help us celebrate National Youth Science day by attending our Incredible Wearables class.

Incredible Wearables is designed to engage young people in STEM by immersing them in the fastevolving field of wearable technology, a field that is poised to revolutionize everything from entertainment to space travel to medicine. Along the way, young people will learn how circuits, sensors and health data can be blended with fashion to create a viable wearable tech product. This FREE activity is open to children in grades 3-12.

Create Flavored Vinegars & Oil

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make flavored vinegars and oils?  If so, this one hour class is just for you.  During this class, you will learn the process required to make Italian Style Spice Oil and Lemon Thyme Vinegar along with how to use your newly created dish enhancer.  Prior to taking the class, you will need to pick up a few supplies.  This includes two 8 ounce glass jars or mason jars that have been sterilized.  You will also need a small cutting board, knife, 1 bulb of garlic, 1 lemon, and one package of fresh thyme, which can be found in the produce section of your local grocery store.  Oil, vinegar and dried spices will be provided.

Integrated Pest Management

Managing insects and diseases in the home garden can at times be overwhelming and make an otherwise successful gardening season a nightmare. This is more so when the objective is to raise healthy vegetables or maintain an environmentally friending vegetable garden where little to no synthetic chemicals are used. This class will take participants through the basic principles of Integrated Pest Management, how they can be applied in the home garden to minimize on the use of synthetic chemicals while reducing insect and disease infestation in your garden.

Arm Knitting a Cowl

Have you ever wanted to learn how to arm knit but thought it would be too difficult?  Well, believe it or not, arm knitting is not that difficult and it is fun to do.  In this class, you will learn arm knitting basics and make your own cowl or infinity scarf using the garter stitch that you can wear out that night. Supplies you will need to bring include scissors, and one skein of #6 Super Bulky Yarn that is 74 yards in length.

Students of all ages compete in spaghetti bridge-building contests every year. Test your engineering skills and join us to build the strongest spaghetti bridge. Arm Knitting a Fringed Scarf

Looking to give arm knitting a try? Well if the answer is yes then this class is for you. In this class, you will learn the basic skills needed to arm knit along with completing a project. Please note that this fringed scarf is not the typical kind made for winter warmth. It is designed to be part of a fashion statement. Supplies you will need include 2 balls of #5 Super bulky or bulky  yarn and scissors.

Healing Gardens

Healing gardens have been used by hospitals and large clinics as part of the healing process for patients. These gardens existed since ancient times but have been  more frequently used these days with scientific evidence that some forms of human healings can be enhanced with constructing gardens aimed at providing some level of satisfaction to some human sensories. In this class, participants will learn the basic concepts of healing gardens and how to set up simple healing gardens and enjoy the benefits in their backyards

Raising and Maintaining Vegetable Seedlings

Raising and managing vegetable seedlings at home can be viewed as daunting if the basic principles for doing this are not known or followed. One can easily run into problems such as damping-off that could kill all your seedlings to splindly and weak growing seedlings that are not good for the garden. Knowing the right conditions required for raising a vegetable nursery at home such as light, temperature, humidity, applying the right quantities of water and nutrients at the right time and following basic hygienic requirement is all that it takes to be successful. This class will take participants through the basics required for raising a successful vegetable nursery at home.
